History

Freedom Fellowship Christian Church

On July 4, 1993, Rev. Raney Cheeks following a Liberation Theology vision from our God founded the Inner Light Unity Fellowship Church. The church met mainly in the chapel of the people's congregational church, located on 10Th and G Streets, NW, and for periods relocated to westminster street, SW.

In May, 2002 from the Inner Unity Fellowship, a part of the family separated to form the Unity Fellowship Church Washington, DC and installed Rev. Dyan Abena McCray as the founding pastor. The church met in the chapel of Luther Place Memorial Church located at 1226 Vermont Ave. NW.

For a time Inner Light United Fellowship church changed it's name to the Unity Fellowship Church Nation's Capitol. During a spiritual convocation in October of 2003, both parts of the family merged as one body for a brief period.

At the end of 2003, the family prayerfully agreed that it could best fulfill it's mission separated. The Unity Fellowship church Washington, DC relocated again to Vermont Ave and remains there to date.

The Unity Fellowship Church Nation's Capitol changed it's name to the Freedom Fellowship Christian Church and called Rev. Kevin Brown as Senior Pastor who server until May 2008. The church has met at various location in the northeast corridor of the District, and to date worships at it's current location 4649 Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave, NE

In the absence of a senior pastor, the church appointed Reverends Eugene Eastman, Juan McCoy, and Nathaniel Singleton as pastoral team to lead while it prayerfully sought God's direction. In September 2008, the church declared the pulpit open and announced a pulpit search.

On January 1, 2009 the church called Dr. Larry Short as Senior Pastor.

Upon reflection, from the day of his vision entrusted to Bishop Raney Cheeks to today, God reigns yet supreme! Our history records a collection of mountain top and valley experiences. Under the leadership of Bishop Cheeks, Rev. McCray and now Dr. Larry Short, we stand strong in the Lord and committed to the work assigned to us.
